DAILY SUBSTITUTE RATE: $23.00 Hr

LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE RATE RANGE*:  $31.35-$79.68 Hr (Determined by salary placement)

  *Long-term substitutes employed for a period of time beyond twenty (20) consecutive

     workdays in any one assignment in a given school year.   

 

BENEFITS: Washington State Sick Leave Law: One (1) hour of sick leave for every Forty (40) hours worked.     

 

Emergency Substitute Applicants:

The Sunnyside School District has a Mandatory Training Program for all Emergency Substitutes candidates. You will need to complete the online application, upload unofficial college transcripts with the degree posted, and an updated resume.  All materials must be submitted to be considered.  Selected applicants will attend a one-day training (non-paid).  School district administrative staff will conduct this program and is provided at no cost to the participants. (Date TBD)

*Requirements:  

  • Have an AA Degree or Higher
  • Pass Washington State Patrol & FBI fingerprint background check  
  • Upload Unofficial College Transcripts
  • Upload an updated Resume
  • Include three Professional References that we may contact
  • *Must be 21 years of age or older (May consider 20 years of age for grades Kindergarten-5th grade with Superintendent approval)*

  • OSPI Emergency Substitute Application fee $63
  • Washington State Patrol & FBI fingerprint background check - $78-$80 (at the ESD105 or ESD123)

 

Substitute Teacher Applicants:

You will need to complete the online application, upload unofficial college transcripts, and an updated resume.  All materials must be submitted to be considered.

  • Washington State Patrol & FBI fingerprint background check 

 

Fingerprinting:

In order to be issued an Emergency Substitute Certificate/ Substitute, you must have cleared fingerprint results from the Washington State Patrol and the FBI. The quickest results are received with the electronic fingerprinting available at the ESD105 in Yakima or ESD123 in Pasco.  The cost of fingerprinting is $80.00, please call the ESD105 (Yakima) for an appointment at (509) 454-5317. The cost of fingerprinting is $78.00, please call the ESD123 (Pasco) for an appointment at (509) 547-8441. Remember Fingerprint results are valid for two years at any public school in the State of Washington.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

PURPOSE STATEMENT: 

Emergency Substitutes/Substitute Teachers are on an on-call/substitute basis, this position will perform related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
  2. Provide classroom environment which promotes active learning.
  3. Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
  4. Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
  5. Adhere to all Sunnyside Schools board policies and procedures.
  6. Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  2. Observe and utilize reasonable and professional medical/safety precautions to include positioning children in a safe and secure manner.
 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The daily work is normally performed in a classroom setting and is performed primarily indoors with some requirements for outdoor supervision and activities.  The individual is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch.  There is occasionally reaching, lifting, and carrying of up to 20 pounds. 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Degree: AA or Higher
 

Licenses/Special Requirements:

  • Completed Employment Application
  • Valid Washington State Emergency Substitute Teacher/Substitute Certificate
  • Pass Washington State Patrol & FBI fingerprint background check
  • Must be 21 years of age or older (May consider 20 years of age for grades Kindergarten-5th grade with Superintendent approval)
  • Valid Driver's License or photo identification
  • Social Security Card
