JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:  Special Education Service Provider Assistant 

 

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal/Special Education Director

 

UNIT CLASSIFICATION: PSE Para Educator

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The primary duties of the Special Education Service Provider Assistant under the supervision of a certified staff service provider is the implementation of services for children/students with speech, vision,  fine motor, gross motor,  cognitive/academic, and hearing impairments.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:

  1. Follows oral and written directions, including intervention plans.
  2. Interacts appropriately with others involved in the student’s program, including the teacher and other personnel.
  3. Identifies and reports changes in the student or equipment.
  4. Daily use of a variety of computer programs for intervention and documentation.
  5. Prepares work area and materials for use including setup of specific equipment.
  6. Accompanies the student from classroom to service area or prepares classroom for service delivery.
  7. Implements documented treatment/intervention plans developed by the special education service provider or supervising certificated staff.
  8. Accurately collects and records subjective and objective data.
  9. Record student’s status with regard to established objectives as stated in the treatment plan and report this information to the supervising special education service provider or supervising certificated staff.
  10. Assists the special education service provider or supervising certificated staff in the screening of students.
  11. Assist the special education service provider or supervising certificated staff in obtaining consent forms.
  12. Organize and schedule meetings for the supervising special education service provider or supervising certificated staff.
  13. Accurately input student data into the management system.
  14. Observation of students in various settings.
  15. Responsible for conducting individualized testing/assessment of students.
  16. Collect and distribute assessment/rating forms.
  17. Maintains and cleans equipment, adhering to infection control protocol. 
  18. Maintains the confidentiality of information pertaining to students and their families.
  19. Participates in classroom activities as requested by the special education service provider or supervising certificated staff.
  20. May include playground, cafeteria and general student supervision duties.
  21. Other related duties as assigned.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Engages in various clerical tasks, including filing and copying.
  2. Participates in conferences with the special education service provider or supervising certificated staff as requested by the principal, special education director, or special education service provider or supervising certificated staff.
  3. Participates in educational facility trainings and meetings as requested by the special education service provider or supervising certificated staff.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Daily work will be assigned and supervised by special education service provider or supervising certificated staff (?).

Reports to the Building Principal/Special Education Director.  Interacts regularly with various support staff, and other district employees.  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The daily work is performed in an office/classroom setting and at various sites within the district.  The job incumbent is often required to: stand or sit for prolonged periods; be exposed to computer display terminals for prolonged periods; and meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines.  The incumbent is sometimes required to: be exposed to infectious diseases; and deal with distraught, angry or hostile individuals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful job incumbents will demonstrate a level of knowledge, skills and abilities as listed below.

 

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

 

Pass State Assessment for Para Educators; or 

Associate Degree or higher; or

72-quarter college credits or 48-semester credits at the one hundred level or higher; or 

Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator, in a program

registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training

Council.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Licenses/Special Requirements

One or more of the following credentials is preferred:

 

Valid Washington State Drivers license or photo identification.

Social Security Card.

WSP/FBI fingerprint/background clearance.
